Report before Egyptian foreign minister regarding Israeli elections
Egypt, Politics, 4/24/1999
Mohammed Bassiouni, Egypt's ambassador in Israel, stated that declaring the Palestinian state is a purely Palestinian matter and that they have the right of self-determination and establishing their country.
He added, "We are taking about that declaration date and its necessary timing for declaring the state."
Bassiouni stated at his return from Tel Aviv yesterday that he will present a report to Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa regarding the internal situation in Israel and the upcoming elections.
He added, "Egypt does not interfere in the Israeli internal affairs, but the result of elections will affect the area during the coming four years, because it will determine who will be the prime minister for the coming period," adding that although the Israeli elections are an internal affair, they are considered as having a great impact on the Palestinians.
Regarding the Israeli spy Azam Azam Bassiouni said, "This subject is done and the judiciary said its judgment and we should not speak nor interfere in it."
Regarding the Israeli call for exchanging him for Egyptian detains in Israel, he said, "There is no kind of exchange and this talk is inaccurate."
