El-Husseini meets the international ambassadors in Jerusalem
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 4/23/1999
The Israeli government decided yesterday to issue closure orders against offices in the Orient House, which Israel said are operating illegally.
The Israeli decision comes after the official dealing with the Jerusalem issue in the Palestinian Authority, Faisel El-Husseini, met on Wednesday with foreign consuls accredited in Jerusalem at Beit El-Shark (Orient House) in occupied eastern Jerusalem to inform them about the latest developments regarding the issue of the withdrawal of ID cards from Palestinians residing in Jerusalem by Israel.
El-Husseini tackled the Israeli Supreme Court's discussion which was to come down on Thursday on the legitimacy of the Israeli withdrawal of ID cards from people of Jerusalem, saying that the court protest came within a humanitarian initiative from Palestinian and Israeli human rights organizations and the Palestinian official position as well as not dealing with the Israeli courts.
The Israeli court ordered the Israeli Ministry of Interior to issue a report on all cases of identity cards being confiscated between 1989 and 1991 and to outline its policy regarding the confiscation of ID cards, the Israeli daily Haaretz said.
El-Husseini said the Palestinians will refuse any decision issued by the court that affects their right to remain in the sacred city.
El-Husseni also met with the Egyptian, Qatari and Moroccan ambassadors the Beit El-Shark and briefed them on the situation in occupied Jerusalem.
