El Salvador no longer recognizes Polisario separatists
Morocco-El Salvador, Politics, 4/22/1999
El Salvador said it no longer recognizes the Polisario, a separatist band that claims sovereignty over Morocco's southern provinces, MAP reported.
"We no longer recognize the Polisario with whom we broke all relations a few years ago," visiting external relations minister of El Salvador, Ramon Ernesto Gonzalez Giner, told MAP at the end of a meeting in Rabat with Moroccan Premier Abderrahmane Youssoufi.
"We recognize that it was a mistake of our diplomacy. It (Polisario) is not a country and it is not recognized as a country. So we cannot have relations with it," he added.
According to political observers in Rabat, El Salvador's move is another blow to the Polisario gang, whose practical collapse is only a question of time.
Several countries withdrew their recognition of the "SADR," a republic self-proclaimed by the Polisario, after they realized that the Polisario's thesis was fallacious.
