Cairo hosts Arab electricity ministers meeting

Deliberations of the session of the Council of Arab ministers in charge of electricity started in Cairo on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Arab League. The session was presided over by Bahraini Minister of Electricity Muhammad Jum'a. It was attended by 12 Arab electricity ministers in Egypt, Syria, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq, Palestine, Libya, Morocco, Yemen and other Arab delegations.

The participants in the meeting discussed the 14 articles listed on the meeting's agenda, dealing with various aspects of joint Arab action in the area of electricity and with projects linking the Arab states in a united grid.

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid said in a speech read on his behalf by his assistant for economic affairs that the "united grid is important to link it to the European and African networks."

The AL chief underlined the importance of consolidating inter-Arab cooperation in the field of energy and electricity and in setting up a common market in this area.
