Syrian - Jordanian summit

President Hafez al-Assad and King Abdullah Bin Hussein on Wednesday reviewed the general international, regional and Arab situations in the light of recent developments and their impact on national Arab matters.

In a very positive climate views were exchanged on the best ways of tackling the current conditions relating to inter-Arab conditions and on means of giving conditions a push forward into the course of cooperation, coordination and solidarity.

The two leaders also discussed bilateral relations and basic issues. They agreed to deal with these matters in a spirit of cooperation and fraternity that is conducive to serving the interests of both states.

President al-Assad and King Abdullah agreed on making continued contacts and consultations. Talks between the two leaders started at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Damascus' al-Chaab palace. The meeting was attended by members of the delegation accompanying King Abdullah and the Jordanian ambassador in Damascus. On the Syrian side the meeting was attended by the Syrian Vice Presidents Abdul Halim Khaddam and Zuheir Masharqa, Premier Mahmoud al-Zou'bi, Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa, Minister of the Interior Muhammad Harbal, Information Minister Muhammad Salman, and the minister of irrigation and ministers of state for presidential affairs and the industry.

The plenary meeting between the two leaders was followed by a closed-door meeting. At noon, Wednesday, King Abdullah arrived in Damascus on a visit to Syria. He was welcomed at Damascus airport by President al-Assad and the said high-ranking Syrian officials.
