Morocco's largest private group gets new chief

Mourad Cherif, director general of the Moroccan state-owned phosphates corporation (OCP), became on Tuesday the new chief of the largest Moroccan private group, Omnium Nord Africain (ONA). Cherif, who previously held several ministerial positions, replaces Fouad Filali, 44. Filali has been heading the group for 13 years.
ONA -- which is particularly active in the sectors of agribusiness, mining, insurance and distribution -- posted sales of $1.6 million in 1998.
