Regional, Politics, 4/20/1999
The Cairo Center of Human Rights is holding this April 23-25 in Casablanca the first international conference of the Arab human rights movement, with the collaboration of the Moroccan human rights organization (OMDH).
A statement of the Cairo center said the event, held in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the universal declaration of human rights, crowns the center's various activities, held over the past four years, to promote debates between members of the Arab movement for human rights.
The conference also seeks to restart the debate on development strategies of the Arab movement of human rights. Participants will assess the situation of human rights in the Arab world, impediments to its improvement and the position of the international community regarding human rights issues in Arab countries.
The international conference will adopt "the Casablanca Declaration," which will serve as a fundamental and moral charter for the Arab movement of human rights and as leading principles of the movement.
The conference will bring together over 100 experts from 15 Arab states and observers from international human rights organizations.
