More Iraqis executed in Baghdad
Iraq, Politics, 4/20/1999
The Iraqi Communist Party asserted on Monday that more than 100 Iraqis charged with taking part in the Shiite acts of disturbances in 1991, were executed in January this year in Abu Gharib prison near Baghdad.
AFP quoted a statement by the party as saying that the majority of the victims are from people who were detained in 1991 and convicted in courts where the simplest legal rights were not given.
AFP added that the party said the series of continued executions since Autumn of 1997 under the name of "cleansing prisons," was not halted during the past two months, but continued with more executions every month.
The statement called upon the Arab League, the UN and humanitarian organizations to exert all possible efforts to prevent the Iraqi authorities from committing more crimes and to save hundreds and thousands of innocent citizens from extermination.
