Al-Assad congratulates Algerian president-elect

Syrian President Hafez al-Assad on Sunday sent a cable of congratulations to Abdul Aziz Bouteflika on his election as president of the Democratic and Popular Republic of Algeria.
Al-Assad expressed best wishes for the success of the Algerian president-elect in realizing the aspirations of the people of Algeria and the Arab states' hope of maintaining stability and national unity. President al-Assad expressed his desire to consolidate "brotherly" ties linking Syria and Algeria.
