Lebanese president: Israel is erecting another Berlin wall among the Lebanese
Lebanon, Politics, 4/19/1999

Lebanese President on Sunday received the US ambassador to Lebanon, David Satterfield. The two sides discussed conditions in Lebanon, especially the recent Israeli aggressive acts in annexing Arnoun to the occupied part of south Lebanon.

President Lahoud asserted Lebanon's rejection of the Israeli measures, which he viewed as a flagrant disregard to Lebanon's adherence to its sovereignty over Arnoun and every inch of the occupied Lebanese lands.

The Lebanese President said in reference to Israel and its claims that it wants to withdraw from Lebanon: "Israel is pulling out backward. It uses military force to erect mounds and barbed wires in Arnoun. By doing so Israel is erecting another Berlin Wall between the Lebanese people."

President Lahoud stressed Lebanon's commitment to its legitimate right to resist the "Israeli aggressors and rejecting any attempt made to undermine the unity of the Lebanese state, people and resistance."

He confirmed Lebanon's commitment to the Middle East peace process within the framework of cohesion between the Syrian and Lebanese tracks so as to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
