British parliamentarians welcome the establishment of a Palestinian state
Palestine-UK, Politics, 4/19/1999
More than 60 British parliamentarians at the House of Commons have recently signed a patent addressed to the British government in which they expressed their welcome for the support expressed by the European Union to establishing an independent Palestinian state.
The spokesman for the representatives of the Democratic Liberal Party at the House of Commons, Mensis Campbell, said in a statement to the Jewish weekly "Jewish Chronicle " in its most recent issue that two representatives of Jewish origin at the house of commons, Harry Cohen and Gerald Kaufman, were among the signatories of the patent.
The paper said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his strong regret over the increasing support in Europe for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, which, he claimed, constitutes a danger to Israel.
The Jewish Chronicle also added that members of the British House of Commons also welcomed the readiness of the EU to recognize the Palestinian state and to abide by the security of both the Palestinians and the Israelis, alike.
For his part, renowned Jewish-British professor Ephream Karsh told the weekly that, "The majority of the Israelis have the conviction that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is inevitable."
