Distribution of geographic atlas of Arab states in universities suspended
Regional, Politics, 4/17/1999
Border disputes between the Arab states surfaced in an academic exercise that publishes a map of the Arab states.
In concluding his meetings yesterday in Jordan's capital Amman, the council of Arab universities decided to suspend the distribution of the Geographic Atlas of Arab Nations, which was published by the union to be distributed among different Arab universities, due to disputes that took place in the meeting's sessions between different universities' delegations and their objections to the geographic borders between these countries.
Also of concern was the names of some Arab states according to the point of view of the participating delegations.
The union of Arab universities had authorized Baghdad University to set this atlas since 10 years, at a cost of $6 million, yet Baghdad did not produce it due to the international sanctions imposed on it, so the union printed 750 copies as an experiment after it was set and revised by specialized professors in Arab universities to bypass the version produced by Baghdad's University's professors.
