Morocco, Economics, 4/17/1999
Two million foreign tourists visited Morocco in 1998, bringing to the North African country around $ 167 million against $ 141 Mln in 1997.
French "Le Monde" daily, which reports the figures this Saturday, says about 600,000 French tourists visited the Kingdom in 1998. The French still rank first among the foreign tourists visiting Morocco, it says.
The Spanish come in the 2nd place with 14,000 tourists followed by the Britons with 6,445 visitors, the daily says, recalling that Morocco wants to attract four million tourists by year 2003.
To reach that goal, the Moroccan tourism authorities have set an ambitious strategy seeking to bolster the country's accommodation capacity and improve quality of services.
