In Sahel-Saharan summit - discussing cooperation between African countries and solving the rifts erupted between them

The summit of the Sahel-Saharan countries was held yesterday evening at the Libyan city of Syrte in the attendance of six African leaders: Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi, Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore, Chadian President Idris Deby, Malian President Alpha Oumar Konare, Central African Republic President Ange Patasse, Eriterian President Assiyas Afworki and Sudanese President Omar El-Bashir, as well as a supervisor from Egypt who was represented by Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab Affairs Sayed Abu Zied.

The summit, which is considered the second of its sort since the assemblage was established a year ago, will address boosting cooperation between member states in all fields, in addition to continuing the establishment of vital structures.

The summit will discuss also the disputes in Africa, especially in the Great Lakes region, and the Horn of Africa, and how to solve them through Africa.
