US donation to save Luxor temples
Egypt-USA, Culture, 4/15/1999
The High Council for Antiquities in Egypt has received the US government's approval on specifying $40 million as a donation to save Luxor temples from dangers posed by ground water, a donation Hillary Clinton promised during her recent visit to Egypt.
The upgrading plan includes three stages to study the ground water in Luxor, which is to be undertaken by Egyptian and US experts and last for 18 months. This study is expected to consume 50 to 60% of the donation, while the rest will be specified for future upgrading of these temples.
