Organizations remind Tunisian president of human rights
Tunisia, Politics, 4/15/1999
Non-governmental organizations asked Tunisian President Zein al-Abidin Bin Ali to "lift accusations and restrictions" imposed on the activist Tunisian layer working in the area of human rights, Radia al-Nasrawi.
Amnesty International, the French Human Rights League and the Committee for Honoring Freedoms and Human Rights in Tunisia, in a statement released on Wednesday, called upon the Tunisian president to intervene so security forces will immediately put an end to harassment and restrictions imposed on al-Nasrawi and her family because of her activity in the area of human rights.
The lawyer is accused of being involved in terrorism. She was prevented from leaving the country and the district of the capital Tunis. She also faces a prison sentence of 22 years.
The same organizations called upon President Bin Ali to stop following up Majeed Sahrawi and Hameh al-Humami, two men who are accused in absentia of the same charges.
The organizations asserted that, "All these persons were accused for their views and never resorted to violence nor belonged to terrorist groups."
