Jordanian journalists observe sit-in
Jordan, Local, 4/14/1999
Jordanian journalists on Tuesday observed a sit-in in front of the Jordanian daily al-Arab al-Youm in protest against measures taken by the paper's board in firing 10 journalists and 15 technicians and administrators. The paper cited economic reasons for the firing. The participants in the sit-in demanded that their colleagues be returned to work.
Several Jordanian Parliamentarians and representatives of trade unions and security federations arrived at the place where the sit-in was observed to express solidarity with the journalists in their demands to bring back their colleagues to work. Several speeches were delivered condemning the firing.
