Egypt: Operation of electric link Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Turkey in December

Commercial operation of the second stage of the electric network project linking the eastern Arab states was for the end of December after linking the European network with Syrian network, which is currently linked with the Turkish network, is completed.
Turkey started a project to link its electric networks with the Greek network to complete the electric link circle for networks of the Mediterranean Sea basin countries that will allow exchanging electric energy between the Arab states and Europe through Turkey in the east and Morocco in the west.
An Egyptian report said the cost of the project, which comprises its third stage to be implemented in the year 2000 in Iraq, Turkey and Egypt, reaches nearly $560 million and that the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development will provide the necessary financing for the project among the Arab states while the Islamic Development Bank presents financing to Turkey and that Lebanon will join the link with the eastern countries.
