Israeli high court holds hearing on revocation of residency from Jerusalem for Palestinians
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 4/12/1999

The Israeli High Court of Justice will hear this April 22 a petition tabled by five human rights organizations on the legality of Israel's policies regarding residency rights of Palestinians of East Jerusalem (occupied Al-Quds).

According to an Israeli human rights organization, "Betselem," Israel's policies have caused thousands of Palestinians to lose their status as residents of the city, as well as the social welfare benefits to which they are entitled.

All Palestinians who live abroad for a period of time, those who move to the West Bank, even meters outside the municipal boundaries are liable to lose residency.

According to the organization, this policy clearly discriminates between Palestinians and Jews, as Jews can move to settlements in the West Bank without endangering their status.
