US restrictions on exports of Egyptian cotton
Egypt-USA, Economics, 4/12/1999

A report issued by the Egyptian body for commercial representation stated that Egypt occupies the 37th position as a commercial partner for the US state of California and that the trade volume between Egypt and California reaches $250.2 million.

The report said the federal government places restrictions on imports of Egyptian cotton, which limit increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.

The report added that Egypt and California signed many agreements to encourage bilateral commercial exchange, like banning double taxation, protecting investments and forming joint committees in the framework of the US - Egyptian partnership program and the Mubarak - Gore initiative for bilateral cooperation.

It said the most important Egyptian exports to California are cotton, textiles, fabrics, clothes, carperts, manually-processed ceramics, vegetables and forzen fruits.
