Israel-Russia, Politics, 4/10/1999
Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon is heading tomorrow to Moscow on a visit to Russia, his third in six months, during which he will meet with his Russian counterpart, Igor Ivanov, to discuss developments in the Middle East and the Balkans.
Russian sources in Cairo told ArabicNews.com today that Sharon will discuss with Russian officials the planned Russian weapons transaction with Syria and halting cooperation with Iran as well as making election campaign to support his party and participate in activities made by the Jewish faction for the Holocaust.
Israel Radio described the visit as important, saying that it is an attempt to prevent dissemination of Russian technology that could enable Iran to acquire nuclear weapons and long-range missiles, saying that a joint supervision body between Israel and Russia was established for this purpose including the membership of Sharon and Ivanov.
Israel is trying to persuade the Russian authorities not to convey scientists and sensitive to technology to Iran.
