Morocco-Algeria, Politics, 4/9/1999
The Moroccan daily "Al Alam" confirmed on Thursday that a young Moroccan shepherd was killed last Sunday by Algerian border guards near the Moroccan sea resort town of Saidia.
Algerian official sources had denied the news reported by another Moroccan daily, "Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki," which said that Algerian border guards have killed a Moroccan 18-year old shepherd who was grazing his herd in the Moroccan territory.
"Al Alam" also confirmed news denied by the spokesman of the Algerian foreign ministry that more than 50 Algerians are arrested weekly in Morocco that they enter illegally in an attempt to emigrate to Europe.
The daily published a list of ten Algerian nationals who have been arrested by security forces on charges of illegal emigration to Morocco.
