French secretary of state of foreign trade in Rabat

French secretary of state of foreign trade, Jacques Dondoux, who started on Thursday a two-day work visit to Morocco held talks with several members of the cabinet on means of upgrading bilateral economic relations.

The French secretary of state who is accompanied by several officials and delegates of French small and medium-sized enterprises, held a working session with Moroccan minister of industry and trade Alami Tazi.

The French side expressed hope on the occasion that the Moroccan parliament would ratify the agreement on investment protection signed by the two countries in 1996. It also raised the issue of delays in the payment of money owed for projects carried out for the state and in enforcing the justice rulings.

Their Moroccan interlocutor expounded the efforts being made by the government to settle these issues and to introduce the required reforms to anchor the kingdom's economy to world economy and to attract the largest possible number of foreign investors.

The French delegation did not hide that France would like one of its companies to get the $ 500 million private second GSM license. It also expressed the wish that the Moroccan carrier "RAM" would purchase the France-made Airbus planes and that the construction of the projected Casablanca subway will be entrusted to a french firm.

The delegation later on held a meeting with Secretary of state for posts and new information technologies, Larbi Ajjoul, to review Moroccan-French cooperation in telecommunication matters and prospects for French enterprises to participate in the modernization and rehabilitation of the Moroccan telecommunication network.

The French delegation is to meet this Friday with prime minister, Abderrahmane Youssoufi.
