Moroccan human rights council proud over settlement of human rights cases
Morocco, Politics, 4/9/1999
The Moroccan Human Rights Advisory Council (CCDH) expressed in a message to King Hassan II pride that Morocco has settled all human rights pending cases.
In the message, the CCDH chairman and members underscore that the Kingdom "has the privilege of achieving with bravery, faith and resolve" the great human rights epic, confirming thus the triumph of law and the pre-eminence of right and of the state of institutions, like all the deeply-rooted democracies and part of the constant features of the authentic Moroccan identity.
King Hassan II of Morocco has agreed on a proposal made by the Human Rights Council to grant free pardon to all prisoners, convicted of offense to state security and to indemnify families of reported "missing" people.
The message also underscores that these significant results would not have been possible without the king's great wisdom, deep understanding, political perspicacity, and his permanent concern that his people enjoy the benefits of freedom and the virtues of democracy.
"The results reached by the Council, in compliance with the high instructions issued by Your Majesty to settle the human rights pending cases, through the study of the issue of so-called missing persons, in a six-month deadline, and contained in the royal speech before the first session of the parliament's second legislative year, constitute an outstanding historic landmark in the Hassanian march of human rights," the CCDH message stresses.
The CCDH considers that with these new decisions, the issue of the 112 "missing people" is definitively closed.
The Moroccan newspapers of various trends have also expressed this Friday satisfaction over the Royal pardon, a decision, they said, evidencing that Morocco has turned a page and is resolutely determined to consolidate the rule of the law.
