Meeting with Moratinos, Lahoud stresses cohesion between Syrian, Lebanese tracks

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has asserted Lebanon's commitment to the principles on the grounds of which the Middle East peace process was built in implementing international legitimacy resolutions and the land-for-peace formula.

During his meeting with EU Middle East peace process special envoy Miguel Angel Moratinos, the Lebanese President asserted cohesion between the Lebanese and Syrian tracks in order to reach a just and comprehensive peace in the region. The Lebanese president also reiterated Lebanon's rejection to the Israeli attempts to single Lebanon out through proposing rejected formula in form and content such as the Israeli proposals as "Lebanon first" or "Jezzine first."

President Lahoud added that Lebanon cannot establish security arrangements or make negotiations with Israel in order to withdraw its forces from south Lebanon and the western Bekaa.

He indicated that UN resolution 425 should be implemented unconditionally. The Lebanese president noted the role played by the European Union in the Middle East peace process and its understanding to the issue of cohesion between the Syrian and Lebanese tracks.
