British daily: Iraq and Yugoslavia
Iraq-Yugoslavia, Politics, 4/7/1999

The British daily "The Times" issued on Tuesday said that Iraq is the only Muslim country which supports the Serbs in Yugoslavia. The paper added that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein has voiced his solidarity with the Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic.

The paper added that Iraq says the US tries to compensate for its failure in Iraq through achieving a victory in Europe and that Baghdad described the NATO attacks as an aggression against the people of Yugoslavia.

The paper added that Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and Milosevic are the only two who have challenged the US militarily and both men have interests in weakening the UN and the unity of the NATO.

The British daily added that the Islamic countries strongly denounced Belgrade due to its practices against the Muslims of Kosovo, while other countries showed their desire to cut diplomatic relations with Yugoslavia.
The article said many Muslim countries abstained from supporting NATO because they see in the attack against Yugoslavia as another attempt made by the West "to impose its will on others by means of force."
