Arrangements to release Jordanian prisoners in Syria
Jordan-Syria, Politics, 4/7/1999

Well-informed Jordanian sources told the London-based al-Sharq al-Awsat daily that the Syrian government has actually started taking practical steps to arrange the release of Jordanian prisoners and that announcing this step will be made during King Abdullah's visit to Syria within the coming days.

Well-informed Jordanian sources told the daily that high-ranking bilateral governmental representatives have recently discussed this matter, noting that the most important among meetings as such was a meeting which included the chairman of the Jordanian royal court, Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti, and Syrian Vice President Abdul Halim Khaddam and Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa during Eid al-Adha vacation.

The sources continued that al-Kabareiti came up with a positive impression in this respect, especially after setting up a judicial committee to study files of the Jordanian detainees and highlight this matter.
