Algeria and mali call for speeding up Sahara settlement plan implementation

Algerian and Malian foreign ministers, Ahmed Attaf and Mobido Sidebe, called for speeding up the Sahara settlement plan. In a statement released Monday in Algiers following a meeting of the joint cooperation commission, the two foreign ministers said the plan should "lead to the holding of a free, fair and legal referendum in Western Sahara."
The two men also "renewed support to ongoing efforts by the United Nations for the implementation of the settlement plan, the Houston agreements and latest proposals of the secretary general for the completion of the referendum process."
