Guatemala thanks Morocco for assistance to victims of Hurricane Mitch

Vice president of Guatemala, Luis A.Flores Asturias, expressed thanks to the Moroccan government for the financial assistance it extended to his country which was affected by Hurricane Mitch last October.
In a message of thanks addressed to Morocco's ambassador in Mexico, the Guatemalan vice president pointed out that the Moroccan assistance enabled Guatemala to help citizens who suffered heavy losses and to rehabilitate roads, schools and hospitals damaged by the cyclone.
Hurricane Mitch, which ravaged last fall the Central American countries, claimed some 26,000 lives and affected some 2.3 million people. Material damage was assessed at nearly US $7 billion.
Following the disaster, a Moroccan delegation visited Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua to express Morocco's sympathy with these countries and extend them financial assistance.
