Morocco and UN human rights commissioner sign accord setting up center in Morocco
Morocco-UN, Politics, 4/6/1999
Morocco, the U.N High Commissioner for Human Rights and the U.N Development Program are to sign in Geneva this Tuesday an accord setting up a human rights documentation, information and training center.
The accord, initialed last year during the visit to Morocco of the human rights high commissioner, Mary Robinson, will be signed by Moroccan Minister of Human Rights Mohamed Aujjar, Robinson and a UNDP delegate.
During her visit to Morocco in April 1998, Robinson -- who had attended the first Mediterranean meeting of National Institutions for Human Rights Protection and Promotion held in Marrakesh -- had praised the Moroccan project to set up a Human Rights Center, describing the move as "a very encouraging step that will enhance cooperation ties between the human rights High Commissioner and Morocco."
Aujjar will also deliver an address before the ongoing 55th session of the U.N commission on human rights and will confer with executives of Geneva-based international organizations. These include the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Health Organization.
