Saudi Arabia renews support to Jordan
Jordan-Saudi Arabia, Politics, 4/6/1999
Saudi Arabia has asserted its full backing for Jordan under all conditions and stressed the historic relations between the two states. On Monday night, Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz held a supper banquet in honor of Jordan's King Abdullah Bin al-Hussein in the second day of his visit to Saudi Arabia.
The Saudi crown prince and King Abdullah held a meeting dealing with relations between the two states and issues relating to the region, especially the questions of Palestine, Jerusalem, the Middle East peace process, the Iraqi crisis, and inter-Arab relations.
Well-informed sources told the London-based al-Hayat's daily correspondents in Riyadh that the Saudi crown prince asserted Saudi Arabia's total support for Jordan under all conditions, due to the historical "ties linking the two countries."
Other reliable sources told al-Hayat that King Abdullah stressed to the Saudi leadership his country's readiness for strong relations with the Gulf states, especially Saudi Arabia, as Saudi Arabia is the first country King Abdullah visited after he assumed power in his country.
Jordanian Minister of Information Nasser Lawzi said the visit of Jordan's King Abdullah visit to Saudi Arabia and his meeting with the Saudi king and the crown prince represents the return of intimate relations between the two countries.
Lawzi added that all signs of the Gulf War were removed and that the visit confirms the historic and natural relations between the two countries.
Lawzi added that Saudi Arabia presents all support to Jordan and said the Arab leaders honored the great King Hussein in the end and that the new king will contact and communicate with leaders in the Gulf, including Kuwait.
Regarding the resumption of relations and finanicial aid to Jordan and Jordanian laborers to the Gulf, he said, "We do not build the relations with our brothers in Gulf on the economic interest represented in aid or Jordanian laborers, for any relations are agreement, cooperation and joint solidarity."
