Syrian president confers with Cypriot counterpart

President Hafez al-Assad on Monday received at the coastal Syrian city of Lattakia's presidential palace President of the Republic of Cyprus Glafcos Clerides and members of his accompanying delegation. The meeting was attended by Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Sharaa.
Talks dealt with several issues relating to regional and international conditions. The two Presidents reviewed in details the current and standing conditions in the region and in the Mediterranean states and the surrounding countries.
They also discussed the dangers resulting form the deterioration of conditions in the Balkan region. The two Presidents shared similar views on the debated issues. Talks also dealt with bilateral matters.
