Iraq rejects new British proposals on Iraq
Iraq-UK, Politics, 4/6/1999
The Iraqi daily Babel has asserted that British proposals concerning Iraq aim at imposing an international mandate on Iraq. The Iraqi daily added that the British proposals, which were circulated by the British representative at the UN Security Council to the council's members, aim at converting the Iraqi people into refugees.
The British proposals call for installing a continuous monitoring system to ensure that Iraq will not develop or rebuild its weapons.
The paper continued that such British proposals aim at confronting the French and Russian proposals offered to deal with Iraq following the US and British attacks against Iraq.
The paper asserted that the "British proposals are part of the greater US conspiracy in the war of attrition against Iraq."
