Chinese President confers with Mubarak

Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Monday in Beijing received Egyptian President Muhammad Mubarak. The meeting was attended by the Chinese deputy chairman of the state council Chian Chin Chin, high-ranking Chinese officials and members of the Egyptian delegation, accompanying President Mubarak.
The Egyptian president arrived in Beijing earlier in the day for a five-day visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Jiang Zemin, Xinhua (the Chinese News agency) reported.
Egypt and China have asserted the importance of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East in line with UN resolutions and the basics of the Madrid Conference, especially the land-for-peace formula.
Following the talks held on Monday, a joint statement was signed by Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Chinese President Jiang Zemin. The statement read that the UN resolutions, foremost of which are UN Security Council resolutions 242, 338 and 425 as regards the Middle East issue, the land-for-peace formula, the Madrid conference terms of reference and the signed agreements represent the principles and bases which must be adhered to in achieving peace in the Middle East.
Earlier in the day the Egyptian president arrived in Peking starting an Asian tour which will cover China, South Korea and Japan.
Egyptian Minister of Information Safwat El-Sherif, who is accompanying president Mubarak, said the meeting with Chinese officials tackled the challenges imposed on the developing countries in light of the new world system and the challenges facing the economies of these countries.
El-Sherif said the Chinese official confirmed the importance of mutual work to achieving international peace and stability, confirming the importance of the Middle East peace process based on respecting the legal rights of Arab people, a permanent and just solution to the Palestinian issue and the Palestinian people's right to establish their statehood.
The Chinese news agency said that Mubarak's talks with Zemin will deal with efforts aimed at reviving the Middle East peace process and multifaceted relations between the two countries especially in the economic field.
