Moratinos in Lebanon today
Lebanon-European Union, Politics, 4/5/1999
The European Union's Middle East peace process envoy, Miguel Moratinos, arrived today in Beirut at the beginning of his new tour of the region, in order to enhance the stalemated peace process.
This visit comes after the positive and historic stand of European Union in which the Berlin summit's statement two weeks ago expressed a confirmation of the right of the Palestinian people to establishing their state along with the with the opposition to the Israeli policy based on entrenching its occupation of Jerusalem, making it the Israeli capital forever.
Moratinos' tour relates to two important facts, the association between stability and security in Europe and Middle East and the importance of European interests in the region.
Lebanon is considered one of the parties concerned with the peace process as its southern area is occupied by Israel which refuses to withdraw in accordance with UN Security Council resolution 425.
