UAE offers aid to Kosovo refugees
United Arab Emirates, Culture, 4/5/1999

A plane carrying some 38 tonnes of humanitarian aid offered by the United Arab Emirates to Kosovo refugees took off from Abu Dhabi on Sunday heading for Tirana.

AFP quoted Khaleifa Bin Nasser al-Sweidi, chairman of the board of the UAE Red Crescent Society, as saying that the plane carries foodstuffs, blankets and tents. He explained that the aid is offered by the UAE government and several figures.

Al-Sweidi added that the society intends to send today another plane loaded with humanitarian aid from private donations, and a third plane is also expected to be sent on Tuesday.

Al-Sweidi added that the campaign of financial donation for the Kosovo refugees has received a good response, noting that one man donated US $136,240.

Some 320,000 persons have been obliged to leave Kosovo and gather on its borders.
