On King Abdullah's visit to Syria
Jordan-Syria, Politics, 4/5/1999

Jordanian Foreign Minister Abd al-Ilah al-Khatib has asserted that the visit of Jordan's King Abdullah to Syria has not been fixed yet, adding that the visit of the Jordanian King to Saudi Arabia will mark the beginning of Arab meetings on summit levels.

In a telephone conversation with the Saudi daily Okaz published on Sunday, in reply to a question on the recent visit made by the chairman of the Jordanian Royal Court, Abdul Kareem al-Kabareiti to Syria, al-Khatib said al-Kabareiti was on a private visit to Damascus and that visit was not a secret and was during al-Adha Eid.

Al-Khatib added, "One who knows geography knows that a visit by a Jordanian citizen or official from Amman to Damascus or vice-versa is made smoothly. It is natural that such visits are taking place to reflect the atmospheres of detente in the relations between the two countries."
