Abdul Meguid: Canceling decision to divide Palestine calls into question the existence of Israel
Regional, Politics, 4/3/1999

Arab League (AL) Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid said that withdrawal of the Israeli recognition of UN General Assembly's decision 181 taken in 1947 would cancel the basis upon which Israel is established and calls its existence into question.

The AL's spokesmen, Talat Hamad, said the Israeli step comes as a part of electoral and political maneuvers between the Israeli parties before elections.

UN resolution 181 dictates the division of Palestinian into two countries, Israel and Palestine.

Abdul Meguid added that Israel's retreat from decision 181 has an implied meaning not to adopt Israel's legitimacy and call into question its membership in the United Nations.
