Sudanese foreign minister investigates killing of four Sudanese
Sudan, Politics, 4/3/1999

The Sudanese Foreign Ministry said yesterday that the killing of four Sudanese citizens who were detained by the rebel Sudanese People's Liberation Army will have dangerous outcomes on peace efforts and the humanitarian situation in Sudan.

A statement by the Sudanese Foreign Minister Mustafa Othman Ismael said the Sudanese government insists on opening an investigation into the circumstances of the accident and handing over the bodies of the victims immediately, without revealing the side that will conduct the investigation.

The bureau of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Khartoum announced yesterday that the four Sudanese, among whom were three governmental officials and a Sudanese employee of the Red Cross, were killed.

The Sudanese People's Liberation Movement in Nairobi said the four Sudanese were killed last week in battles with government forces, but the Sudanese army did not speak about the battles in these regions.
