Executing drug smugglers in Oman

Oman decided it will execute drug dealers or those who take part in smuggling these substances to end the increasing activity of drug dealers.

Sultan Qaboos Bin Said of Oman issued a new law to combat drugs through confronting the drug smuggling operations taking place in the region.

Drug experts confirmed that the smuggling of drugs is increasing in the Gulf region as is the drug trade.

Oman is trying to put an end to smuggling drugs through coordination between Oman and the United Arab Emirates and between Oman and Iran on to halt the smuggling of drugs across the Straits of Hormuz. These efforts succeeded in frustrating several smuggling attempts.

Moreover Oman cooperates with the international network for combating drugs affiliated to the International Monetary Fund comprising 100 countries. They have also agreed to exchange information and experience and to stop gangs from international smuggling.

Oman was provided with modern systems to discover these drugs, which became a source of anxiety. The new law dictates the formation of a national committee for narcotics and psychotropic substances to draft general policies concerning combating drugs.
