Moroccan, French and US experts meet on associations' role in social action
Morocco-International, Culture, 3/30/1999
A seminar on associations' action in social issues brought together in Paris Moroccan, French and US experts who compared their experience in social actions for helping youths and families facing hardships.
The seminar, held at the initiative of a French-registered association dealing with youth, culture, leisure and technology, reviewed means of enhancing cooperation to face effects of globalization on social issues.
In addition to the French association "Jeunesse, Culture, Loisirs et Technique," the seminar was attended by delegates from Moroccan "Fes-Saiss" association, U.S. William Paterson College in Wayne, New Jersey, the UNO and UNESCO and the U.S foundation "100 Black Men."
Debates centered mainly on social alienation, a phenomenon affecting both industrialized and developing countries, and the crucial role that non-governmental associations should play to alleviate exclusion effects on the youth and poor people.
Participants decided to intensify cooperation to hold a summit on "Youth in the 3rd millennium," with the collaboration of the UNO and UNESCO.
The French association, chaired by Moroccan sociologist Abdallah Bouhamidi, has created six libraries in Morocco and is projecting a seventh one, in addition to sponsoring training sessions in hotel industry for young people both in Morocco and France.
