Jordan, Qatar back rights of Palestinians to establish their state
Jordan-Qatar, Politics, 3/26/1999

Ruler of Qatar Sheikh Hamad Bin Khaleifa al-Thani left Amman on Wednesday following a two day visit to Jordan during which he discussed with King Abdullah Bin al-Hussein bilateral relations, the Iraq issue and joint Arab work.

The Jordanian news agency Petra said talks between the two sides centered on "distinguished bilateral relations between the two sisterly countries and the importance of maintaining coordination and consultation in order to unify the stand towards Arab and regional issues."

Concerning the Middle East peace process, the two sides asserted the need to "back its progress and the importance of the commitment of sides concerned to the implementation of final phase requirements." They asserted "total support" for the Palestinian leadership and people to build their own independent state on their native soil.

The two sides called for putting an end to the sufferings of the Iraqi people and to preserve the Iraqi territories' integrity. In statements to reporters, Jordanian Foreign Minister Abd al-Ilah al-Khatib said that the position between the two countries were "identical" concerning all debated issues.

Qatari Foreign Minister Hamad Bin Jasem al-Thani said, replying to a question, that the Palestinian side committed to its obligations towards signed agreements, calling upon the Israeli side to abide by its obligations.
