Mopping up operations in Algeria

Algerian army and security forces have killed 50 members of the Armed Islamic Group during mopping-up operations currently taking place in al-Buweira province.

The Algerian daily al-Alam al-Seyassi said that about 200 armed men are still besieged in these areas by security and army forces, stressing that the prince of the armed group in the said area, known as Jaber, was killed and shelters were destroyed and huge amounts of weapons confiscated.

For its part the Algerian daily al-Khabar said security forces killed on Monday eight armed men during mopping-up operations in Boumerdes province and that the said eight-member group is the most dangerous among the armed ones.

The paper said that a 10 person group of al-Hijra and al-Takfir contingent of the armed groups surrendered itself to the Algerian security forces.
