Khatami to visit Riyadh following pilgrimage

Iranian President Mohammed Khatami will head to Saudi Arabia after the end of the Haj pilgrimage, and he sent a communique to Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz in this regard.
Iranian - Gulf relations are witnessing a great improvement, but Iran's occupation of three Gulf islands whose sovereignty is subject of a dispute with the United Arab Emirates greatly obstructs these relations. Iran recently escalated its occupation of the three islands by the construction of a building, leading to the anger of the Gulf states.
Arab - Iranian relations have also witnessed an improvement during Khatami's term.
