Volume of trade expected to reach $1 billion US between Syria, Turkey
Syria-Turkey, Politics, 3/23/1999
The Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas quoted well-informed Turkish sources as saying that the volume of trade exchange between Syria and Turkey is expected to reach US $1 billion, especially as Turkey is planning to buy natural gas from Syria.
The Turkish sources indicated that the visit currently being made by Syrian Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs Salim Yassin and members of an accompanying delegation to Turkey will help elevate dialogue between the two countries to the level of the foreign ministers next summer, so discussions between the two countries can be broadened to cover the issue of the waters of the Tigris and the Euphrates and Iraq's possible participation in these talks.
