Report: Bin Laden is in eastern Afghanistan
Regional-Afghanistan, Politics, 3/22/1999
The British Sunday Telegraph newspaper said on Sunday in London that Osama Bin Laden is now in eastern Afghanistan. The paper added that western intelligence reports stated that Bin Laden is staying in an area near the border with Pakistan and that Bin Laden still enjoys the protection of the Afghan Taleban movement.
The paper reported that the claims advocated by the Taleban that Bin Laden disappeared from Afghanistan "was little more than an attempt to hoodwink the West, especially the United States, which has put pressure on the Taliban to expel him."
The paper stated that spies working for the West in Afghanistan stressed that Bin Laden, whom Washington seeks to arrest, is moving between his three bases near Jalalabad, in eastern Afghanistan.
