Agriculture provides jobs to more than half of Moroccan working women

Agriculture is the sector that provides most jobs for Moroccan women, as 55% of working women are employed in agriculture, against 42.3% of men.
According to the findings of a national survey on women's "Time Budget" conducted between 1997 and 1998, in the rural world 79.6% of women are working in family farming activities.
A percentage of 62.1% of jobs in industry are held by women and the sector employs 48.5% of working women in cities, against 10.8 % in the rural world. A percentage of 47.7% of working women living in cities are employed in light industries while 26.7% of these women work in social services and household services (as maids).
The study also shows that 39.6% of women and 36.0% of men work as non-skilled workers.
In the countryside, wage-earners represent 4.6% of working women while in cities the percentage rises to 59.3%.
At the national level, 76.8% of working women go on foot to their work site (54.3% in cities and 94.5% in rural areas). In cities, one out of three women uses public transportation while the average time needed to go from home to work stands at 31 minutes for women in cities and 27 minutes for rural women.
The study also shows that the average age to start an occupation is 16.5 years at the national level (21.6 in cities and 13.3 years in rural areas).
