Egypt tops African countries in attracting foreign investment
Egypt, Economics, 3/20/1999

A report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) puts Egypt at the top of African countries in attracting foreign investments due to its healthy investment atmosphere.

The report confirmed that Egypt was able to attract more than $800 million in 1997 in direct foreign investments.

Egypt has a large domestic market, a strong skilled worker base to support its diverse industries, an open business environment with a good business court system. All this, along with a strategic location between three continents is seen as providing for a healthy economy if it continues to be managed by well guided policies.

Egypt has embarked on an effective privatization process, and had sought to effectively increase exports in new markets along with efforts to strengthen its industrial and tourism industries.
