British police free Abu Hamzeh from terrorism in Yemen charges
Yemen, Politics, 3/20/1999
The British police on Friday released Sheikh Abu Hamzeh, leader of Ansar al-Sharia ( al-Sharia partisans) group and two of his men that were arrested earlier on Monday according to the terrorism-fighting law.
The charges were that they were sending armed British citizens to Yemen to carry out terrorist acts there.
The BBC said that the police freed the three men at a guarantee and that they have to come back to one of the police centers in the downtown of London on May 18.
In a statement to the BBC Abu Hamzeh said that the police accused him of "exporting terrorism" and that investigations are proceeding on this matter.
Replying a question to what his answer will be to such an accusation, Abu Hamzeh said "I am an Islamist, and it does not matter if this fact would violates or complies with their view. The important thing is that to be in the context of Islam."
