Morocco says all precautions were taken to facilitate access of goods to Europe
Morocco, Economics, 3/19/1999

The Moroccan government has taken all "possible precautions" to facilitate the access of Moroccan goods to the European Union via Spain, said spokesman of the government, Khalid Alioua.

At a press briefing on Thursday following the weekly Cabinet meeting, Alioua who is also minister of social development, solidarity, employment and vocational training, stressed that international law guarantees the free movement of goods. Alioua renewed Morocco's desire to maintain good relations with Spain.

Spanish private television "Telecinco" reported that Spanish authorities at the southern port of Algesiras are conducting a disinfection operation campaign on all vehicles coming from Morocco and are banning the entry of food stuffs from Morocco,

The measure was taken over suspicion of contamination of food-mouth disease that was detected in North Africa, according to the source.

Port authorities said the operation will be undertaken for several weeks until all contamination risk is dismissed.

Local media say a stringent control is also carried out on all vehicles carrying perishable foodstuffs, MAP reported.
